The Annual Inter-house Sports-Meet of Good Shepherd Convent, Panadura

It was a sunny day. How lucky we were to have the sportsmeet on a day like that. Children were impatiently waiting in their houses until the sportsmeet started. It started sharp at nine o'clock.

The annual inter-house sportsmeet of Good Shepherd Convent, Panadura was held on February 15, 2008. It was held in the school grounds under the patronage of the Principal, Rev. Sr. Marie Jeewani.

There are four houses, Alban, Elbie, Philomina and Andrew. The Chief Guest was Mr. E.A. Disanayaka the Divisional Director of Education – Panadura and the Guest of Honour was the Director of Sports and Games Mr. Mahesh Weerakoon. They were led by the Eastern Band of the school.

The sportsmeet began with the hoisting of the flags by the Principal and the distinguished guests. The welcome speech was delivered by the head prefect of our school.

The house tents were gaily decorated. The class relays were held by all the parallel classes. The drill display drew the attention of the crowd. There was a marchpast of all the four houses.

Awards were given by the distinguished guests. The first place was won by Philomina House. The house members were full of joy when the house results were released. They were thrilled and started cheering. They ran behind the Philomina House captain who was carrying the flag.

The Chief Guest concluded his speech saying that the main purpose of sports is to produce citizens who can face victory and defeat in a cheerful manner.
